WEST MIDLANDS TURKISH ASSOCIATION

west midlands turkish association

Welcome to the West Midlands Turkish Association, a registered charity dedicated to uniting the Turkish community in the West Midlands, UK.

We organise events, courses, and workshops to preserve and share Turkish culture with other diverse communities in the region through education, culture, and the arts.

Key Activities

Educational Activities

At our West Midlands Atatürk Turkish School, we offer Turkish language courses for children aged 6 to 17, designed to immerse them in Turkish culture and language.

Our school is committed to fostering a love of learning and preserving cultural heritage. In addition, our volunteers run Turkish Stay and Play Group for babies and toddlers (ages 0-5) and their parents. This is a fun, interactive way for young children to experience the Turkish language while socialising and playing in a supportive environment.

We also offer short courses and workshops aimed at improving English skills for community members, helping them better integrate into life in the UK.

Arts and Culture

Our association offers cultural activities in both Turkish and English, open to anyone interested in experiencing Turkish culture.

One of our highlights is the Birmingham Turkish Music Choir, led by renowned Turkish classical music artist Yıldırım Bekçi. The choir rehearses every two weeks, bringing both famous and lesser-known Turkish songs to life here in the West Midlands. The choir will soon begin performing ın various parts of our region.

We also have Birmingham Turkish Folk Dance Group run by certified trainers in both traditional and modern dance.

Turkish Heritage Events

We organise events that bring the Turkish community together to celebrate culturally and historically significant days and holidays. Join us for special occasions like International Children’s Day on 23 April and Youth and Sports Day on 19 May, where you can learn about their significance in Turkish history and culture.

Our most cherished annual event is the Republic Ball, held in late October to commemorate the founding of the Republic of Türkiye and to honor its founder, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

Community Collaboration

We work closely with Birmingham City Council, local hospitals, and various charities to promote cultural diversity in the region.

Our mission is to support the social integration of our community members, helping them feel more connected and engaged with life in the West Midlands, and introduce Turkish culture and heritage to those interested.
